Our Coach Approach
General Check-In
Each session begins with rapport building, a genuine personal check-in, and demonstrated empathy and warmth from the coach. Setting the tone for a judgement-free, supportive environment.
Review Progress & Self-Reflection
Students and young adults practice the executive function skills - self-reflection, self-assessment, and working memory as we review the progress made since the previous session. This could be progress on school work, applying for jobs, or some other task. The coach discusses goal alignment with the client to ensure their weekly efforts are connected to their aspirations. This allows for some gentle accountability and moves the conversation towards discussing skill development, such as procrastination, time management, etc.
Introducing New Skills & Overcoming Roadblocks
Often, individuals arrive at a session wanting support with a specific roadblock, such as procrastination, excessive time on phones or gaming, missed assignments, academic anxiety, difficulty with daily routines, or questions about internships or employment. Our coaches help students overcome obstacles by teaching practical tools that lead to real results and restore a sense of control. Through encouragement and accountability, they motivate students to try new strategies and connect these skills to their long term goals.
Action Planning & Celebrating Growth
Each session concludes with a review of the client’s to-do list/ Action Plan from the session, followed by revisiting achievements—both big and small— from the past few weeks. This builds motivation, confidence, and momentum. Coaches highlight growth, resilience, and grit, helping the student see evidence that they can persevere when challenges arise. Students and young adults are reminded that while college may feel demanding, they are actively developing systems and strategies that will set them up for long-term success in the real world.
Why Coaching Works
You’ve probably noticed that the more advice you give, the less your student or emerging adult seems to listen. They may act like they have all the answers, but it’s clear they still lack the skills and maturity to make real progress. Watching their potential stall can be frustrating. College Success Coaching works because it provides a mentor-like relationship with a trained educator who knows how to build rapport and meet your child where they are in their learning and development. Our coaches create safe, nurturing, and educational environments where students can truly thrive.
Unlike traditional instruction, coaching is interactive and student-centered, empowering students to reflect on habits, set meaningful goals, and develop strategies that fit their learning style, preparing them for success in college and career.
